Sheffield Medical products Ltd (SMPL) is a new company set up and run by four Orthopaedic surgeons. The company works on the principle of “By surgeons for surgeons”. SMPL provide an efficient service from enquiry to delivery and have a portfolio to cover many surgical aspects. The quality instruments are a range of over 5,000 items from all surgical disciplines and subspecialties. Ultra systems® instrument containers for all size instrument sets are available and a new addition to the UK market. SMPL supply instrumentation for joint replacement and revision surgery including acetabular reamers. We supply a range of theatre disposables including Pulse Lavage, saw blades and drills.

Autumn 2008 will see the launch of a cemented hip implant based on tried and tested polished taper designs with surgeon designed instrumentation to ease and simplify the operation. We will also be providing bespoke sets of instruments for specific major revision cases.

Based in Sheffield, the famous “Steel City” and home of many surgical advances, we have active links with surgical instrument developers and manufacturers and would be delighted to hear from surgeons with ideas, to aid in the development and marketing.
